Electroencephalogram (EEG) Technicians use specialized equipment and processes tomonitora patient’s nervous system activity. They set up, perform, andmonitorEEG tests which record the electrical activity of a patient’s brain over time. EEG Technicians work under the supervision of epileptologists, neurologists, or other doctors.

This is a full-time role. A caregiver in this position will work 7:00am to 11:00pm with possible weekend requirements.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Perform electroencephalographic examinations.
  • Select predetermined electrode combinations (montages) to obtain recordings, recognizeartifactsand takeappropriate stepstoeliminatethem.
  • Monitor onthe same apparatus, other variables such as electromyograms, electrocardiograms, electro-oculograms, respiration, etc.
  • Observepatientwith video recording equipment, ensure EEG and tape are lined up exactly, and check focus,lightingand microphone.
  • Set-up patient for continuous monitoring at the bedside with video, ifindicated.
  • Instruct nursing caregivers on pushing eventbuttonand care of videos.
  • Abstract relevant information from thepatients'clinicalrecordand obtainadditionalinformation.
  • Successfully obtain the American Board of Registration for Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET) credentialing for a Registered EEG Technologist (R. EEG T.) within two years of hire.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Associate’s degree inelectroneurodiagnosticsor a related patient care fieldOR two years of direct patient care experience.
  • Technologist must successfully obtain the ABRET (American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists) credentialing for R. EEG T. (Registered EEG Technologist) within two years of hire into this position.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross certification required.
  • Two years direct patient care experience may substitute for the Associate's Degree requirement.
  • Completion of an EEG Technician Trainee Program

Physical Requirements:

  • Manual dexterity in order to place electrodes precisely and to operate recording equipment.
  • Ability to push and maneuver EEG machine weighing 320 pounds and Evoked Potential machine weighing 420 pounds.
  • Requires corrected hearing and vision to normal range.
  • Requires some exposure to communicable disease or body fluids.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $28.00

Maximum hourly: $28.00
