What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are looking for a dedicated Mechanical Maintenance Technician (job title: General Maintenance Technologist) to join our Facilities Mechanical Maintenance Team, focusing on HVAC, Plumbing, and our Facility Control System (FCS). This team currently oversees, maintains, and operates the systems for approximately 80 buildings across the California Site. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including projects, maintenance, and engineering, to ensure the seamless operation of site-wide facilities.

On any given day, you will be called on to:

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC, plumbing, and Facility Control Systems (FCS) by inspecting field devices, sensors, piping, valves, and mechanical equipment to ensure optimal operation and performance
  • Perform routine, preventive, and emergency maintenance and repairs on a variety of systems, including HVAC units, boilers, chillers, pumps, plumbing fixtures, and related mechanical and electrical equipment
  • Utilize hand and power tools to conduct repairs and maintenance tasks across multiple trades
  • Conduct routine, periodic, and special inspections of facilities, machinery, and equipment to identify potential issues and prevent operational breakdowns
  • Interpret and apply blueprints, sketches, wiring diagrams, layouts, drawings, and technical specifications to guide maintenance, repair, and installation activities
  • Continuously monitor system performance, promptly troubleshoot irregularities or malfunctions, and respond to service requests and emergency repairs with prioritization based on operational urgency
  • Identify operational risks and implement effective mitigation strategies to enhance system reliability and minimize downtime
  • Provide technical guidance and support to facility personnel on system operation, maintenance best practices, and repair procedures
  • Collaborate closely with Facility Managers, System Engineers, Operations Engineers, Work Planners, and End Users to plan and execute maintenance, repairs, installations, and upgrades efficiently
  • Support mechanical installation and upgrade projects, including enhancements to control systems, and oversee contractor activities to ensure quality and compliance
  • Adhere strictly to safety protocols, regulatory requirements, and company policies to maintain a safe, compliant, and efficient work environment

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Salary Range:

$76,000 - $146,900

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • High school diploma or GED plus five (5) or more years of relevant experience; or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience
  • Experience performing general maintenance activities, including repair and maintenance of plant and/or office building structures and equipment
  • Experience with the operation of either:
  • HVAC systems, including chillers, boilers, air handling units, VFDs, and related mechanical subsystems
  • Plumbing systems, including pumps, backflow preventers, valves, piping networks, and associated fixtures and equipment
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Graduation from a recognized Journeyman Apprenticeship Program or possession of a valid Journeyman Card (HVAC or Plumbing) or graduation from an ABET-accredited college program in Mechanical Engineering, HVAC Technology, Plumbing Technology, or a related field
  • Possess a valid EPA Section 608 Universal Certification or ability to obtain within 1 year of hire
  • Possess a valid Cross-Connection Specialist Certification or ability to obtain within 1 year of hire
  • Possess a valid Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester Certification or ability to obtain within 1 year of hire
  • A Commercial Driver's License with a trailer and tank endorsement. Must be able to maintain medical certification
  • Experience with Automated Logic WebCTRL software for building automation control
  • Experience in Facility Control System programming, operations, installation, or maintenance
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of DDC control systems, with the ability to effectively program and troubleshoot
  • Working knowledge of common office software such as Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and Computerized Maintenance Management System

The Facilities Maintenance and Express Construction Department is dedicated to the comprehensive upkeep, enhancement, and development of our buildings, systems, infrastructure, and utilities. Our team delivers a full spectrum of services, including preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance for electrical high and low voltage distribution, fire protection systems, lighting, plumbing, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning.

In addition, our skilled in-house construction workforce, supported by trusted partner contractors and in-house engineers, provides expert construction services encompassing installations, renovations, modifications, and demolitions.
