Job Description

Position Summary
This position reports to the Director of University Business Systems and is responsible for analyzing data & system interfaces, building system integrations, creating robust reporting solutions, and delivering actionable insights to support business decision-making. This role combines analytical expertise, business intelligence skills, and software programming skills that leverage SQL, SSRS, Power BI, and Visual Studio to design and maintain comprehensive reports and dashboards. It also involves designing, implementing, and maintaining integrations between enterprise systems using tools such as APIs, middleware, and ETL processes to ensure seamless data exchange and workflow automation. The ideal candidate will have the ability to manage the full software development cycle through work experience outside the classroom, a strong technical foundation, a proactive approach to solving data challenges, experience with integration technologies and techniques, and a keen ability to collaborate across university departments. This is an exciting position for a highly competent software developer who can understand business issues and business processes. A person in this role will have the opportunity to work with many technologies and platforms. These range from using Python, SQL, PowerBI, scripting languages, task and job scheduler, as well as industry standard platforms such as Salesforce.com. Additionally, experience with Microsoft Azure, Azure Data Factory, and Azure’s fabric technology will be just some of the platforms that this position will work with. Working knowledge of either agile methodology, or a waterfall SDLC is critical as this position must understand the development, QA, change control, and migration to production processes.

Due to the nature of this position, there will be times when you would be expected to work outside of normal business hours due to system validation after upgrades, report support, etc. University core business hours are Monday – Friday, 8:30 – 4:30. This position does not offer visa sponsorship.

Principal Accountabilities
Data Analysis and Reporting:
Extract, clean, and analyze data from various sources to generate actionable insights.
Develop and maintain standard and custom reports using SQL, SSRS, and Power BI.
Monitor data integrity and resolve discrepancies to ensure accurate reporting.
Business Intelligence Solutions:
Design, build, and deploy BI solutions to support organizational goals.
Support an existing Enterprise Power BI Gateway for university wide ERP operational reporting.
Create and maintain interactive dashboards and visualizations to provide real-time business insights.
Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and tailor BI solutions to their needs.
System Integration Development:
Design, develop, and maintain system integrations to ensure seamless data flow across enterprise platforms.
Utilize APIs, middleware platforms, and ETL tools to support integration initiatives.
Map data transformations and develop workflows to automate integration processes.
Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve issues with existing integrations to minimize system downtime.
Ensure integration solutions adhere to security standards, including proper authentication and encryption.
Collaboration and Support:
Work closely with cross-functional teams to understand business objectives and data needs.
Train team members and business users on how to access and interpret reports and dashboards.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to reporting tools and BI solutions.
Continuous Improvement:
Identify opportunities for process enhancements and automation in reporting workflows.
Stay updated with industry trends and emerging technologies to propose innovative solutions.
Document all reporting processes, including data sources, methodologies, and user guides.

This is a hybrid position, providing the ability to work remotely up to 2 days a week after an initial 90 day new hire period. Certain requirements are subject to possible modifications to reasonably accommodate persons with disabilities.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Business, or a related field.
2+ years of professional experience in data analysis, business intelligence, or a related role.
Technical Skills:
Professional work experience in the full software development cycle.
Proficiency in SQL, including complex query writing and database management.
Professional work experience with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), Power BI, and Visual Studio.
Knowledge of data visualization best practices and tools.
Familiarity with database architecture and optimization techniques.
Experience in scripting and automation for data extraction and reporting is a plus.
Proficiency in building and consuming REST and SOAP APIs to enable seamless data exchange between systems.
Experience with data transformation and mapping to support workflow automation and integration requirements.
Understanding of authentication and security protocols, including OAuth, SAML, and encryption standards for integrations.
Soft Skills:
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.
Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to coordinate projects and timelines with constituents, and ability to present data-driven insights to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
