Summary
Texas Children's Hospital & Baylor College of Medicine are inviting applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track biomedical informatics faculty position at the Assistant level. We seek a dedicated and enthusiastic individual with strong expertise in Natural Language Processing (NLP) and its application to biomedical and clinical data. This position will support and meet the statistical needs of Texas Children's Hospital's hundreds of research teams. The faculty will work with research teams at Texas Children's Hospital to provide statistical and NLP support to investigators in clinical and basic research.
Job Duties
• Leads a research program in NLP with a focus on clinical and biomedical applications.
• Implements standard and advanced NLP techniques and platforms to process clinical data.
• Collaborate with other faculty members and researchers on interdisciplinary research projects.
• Performs other tasks as assigned by senior faculty, including protocol reviews, statistical/analytical report generation, manuscript preparation, and review of related literature.
• Effectively interacts and presents results to investigators.
• Supervises staff data analysts to support clinical and basic researchers in the Department/Hospital.
• Contributes to the publication of peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts.
• Contributes to team science and/or independent grant applications.
• May assist and train users/staff/trainees on NLP analysis.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
• Research experience in developing and applying NLP techniques to clinical and biomedical data (e.g., electronic health records, biomedical literature, clinical notes) is required.
• At least 2-3 years' experience as a data analyst in a biological and/or health-related setting. (Postdoc training counts; Successful Ph.D. graduates with strong publications are encouraged to apply).
• Strong programming skills in Python/R.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Working knowledge of an array of machine learning and NLP techniques.
• Experience with grant development and/or successful grant funding.
