Qualifications:
Introduction to Graduate Study and Research (KINES 300) will focus on developing graduate-level information literacy skills: Searching primary research literature; Critically evaluating, and interpreting scholarly methods, research, and theory; Analyzing and synthesizing information from multiple sources to propose conclusions and further lines of inquiry. We will work on developing both oral and written skills in communicating scholarly findings.
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: Understand and apply fundamental concepts of evidence-based methods for knowledge construction; Identify and contrast major research methodologies; Demonstrate skill in library scholarship; Develop skills in scholarly communication (e.g., APA style); Understand basic statistical concepts; Competently interpret, evaluate, discuss, and write about scientific research and scholarly reports.
KINES 300: Introduction to Graduate Study and Research is one of the five-core courses in the Graduate Kinesiology Program. Upon completion of the required coursework for the program, students complete a one-hour comprehensive exam on the subject material from this class. The instructor hired for this class agrees to write an appropriate exam question for this class. They also agree to help prepare students to complete the exam, grade it, and work with students who may need to retake the exam, for which additional compensation is provided.
This course will be taught in person on the Moraga campus during the 2025 Fall term on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 12:05-12:55 pm.
In addition to teaching, the instructor is expected to hold regular office hours (a minimum of one hour per week) in order to provide students with support outside of the classroom.
The successful candidate will hold an advanced degree in Kinesiology or a closely related field and have a recent publication record in the field, or a Master's degree in Kinesiology or a closely related field and have at least five years of current, relevant professional experience. Demonstrated teaching effectiveness at the graduate level, as evidenced by recent course evaluations, is strongly preferred. Candidates should be comfortable supporting and working in a multi-cultural environment. Preference will be given to those who have taught the course or KINES 015.
Candidates must reside in California.
The salary range for this position is $7,447 - 10,308 (3 units) and is covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the College and SEIU, Local 1021, available here.
