Job Description
Professor-Researcher Position: Immunology-Oncology AxisHôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont Research Center and Faculty of Medicine, Université de Montréal
The Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont Research Center (CR-HMR), an academic institution affiliated with the Université de Montréal, is seeking applications for a Professor-Researcher position to join the Immunology-Oncology research division. The candidate must demonstrate strong leadership, stand out internationally, and present a research program that aligns with the priorities of the CR-HMR and the Faculty of Medicine, including cell and/or gene therapy, manipulation of human immune cells, development of CAR-T/CAR-NK, B cell differentiation, malignant transformation of immune cells, development of lymphomas, leukemias or myeloma, or other related research. This person must also share the HMR research centre’s vision of excellence and demonstrate a collaborative spirit.
The CR-HMR is housed within the Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont (HMR), one of the largest hospitals in Quebec serving a population of over 500,000 people. The HMR is home to a hematopoietic stem cell transplant centre, the Center of Excellence in Cellular Therapy (CETC), the Institut Universitaire d’hématologie-oncologie et de thérapie cellulaire, the Centre universitaire d’ophtalmologie of the Université de Montréal, the largest dialysis centre in Quebec, and a partner patient space within the ambulatory care centre. This clinical and research expertise, recognized nationally and internationally, is directly linked to the CR-HMR’s four main research areas: immunology-oncology, vision health, nephrology, and evaluative research and patient experience. These axes include a continuum of fundamental, translational, clinical, and evaluative research.
Within the immunology-oncology axis, the research activities of the 17 regular researchers focus on the study of cancers, including hematological cancers, and on the immune system. Oncology researchers study the molecular mechanisms controlling the development of cancers and the response to cancer treatments, while immunology researchers investigate the events governing immune responses to infections and tumors. This leads to new therapeutic targets and cellular therapies that, coupled with evaluative research and the CETC, can and have transformed patient care.
The CR-HMR is affiliated with the Université de Montréal, which, in collaboration with its affiliated schools, HEC Montréal and Polytechnique Montréal, is the main hub of higher education in Quebec. According to Times Higher Education, the Université de Montréal, with its 13 faculties and schools, is one of the top 3 research universities in Canada and ranks 125th among the best universities in the world. The Université de Montréal’s vast network comprises 11 affiliated hospitals and research institutes, including the CR-HMR. With more than 10,000 international students out of a total of more than 45,000 students, as well as its 450,000 graduates around the world, the Université de Montréal ranks 3rd among Canadian universities for its international impact according to Times Higher Education. This rich and diverse academic environment is the driving force behind its international recognition in research.
Roles and responsibilities
• Obtain research funds from provincial and federal funding agencies to lead an innovative and productive research program in immunology-oncology
• Supervise graduate students
• Actively participate in the academic life of the CR-HMR and the Faculty of Medicine
• Engage in and lead collaborations within the CR-HMR, the network of research centers and institutes affiliated with the University of Montreal and internationally
