The Director of Perioperative Services and the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) is accountable to leading the advancement of surgical services across the Orange County facility in the delivery of high quality and effective patient care to achieve results consistent with the goals of City of Hope. The Director – Surgical Services is a registered nurse who provides technical, regulatory, and clinical leadership and support as a subject matter expert for all areas related to perioperative care and sterile processing at the City of Hope Orange County facility. This includes the operating rooms, pre and post anesthesia care unit, procedure rooms an.

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Meet regularly with administration, anesthesiology, surgery, nursing, and other decision makers and provide leadership to achieve efficient perioperative delivery of care.
  • Facilitates clinical relationships with surgeons and anesthesiologists to implement process improvement initiatives, policies, procedures and standard work.
  • Assists in developing policies and procedures to maximize the efficiency of perioperative care including key operating room functions such as block assignment to meet established metrics.
  • Participates in institutional committees ensuring that perioperative care is represented including Perioperative Governance Committee, VTE Committee, Care Coordinator Committee, Ambulatory Care Committee, Antibiotic Stewardship Committee, Infection Control Committee, and others as needed.
  • Works along the side of the nurse manager in hiring, develops, mentors, disciplines, and evaluates all non-faculty Perioperative and SPD staff.
  • Recommends and monitors quality control of all equipment in the ORs and SPD.
  • Models the way by fostering exemplary skills in attaining effective teamwork and collaboration with physicians, staff, patients, and other departments.
  • Participates in institutional quality assurance programs.
  • Promotes physician compliance with clinical pathways and protocols.
  • Monitors operating room utilization and works with anesthesia and nursing leadership to address capacity constraints, and other administrative and operational matters.
  • Participates in new program development and initiatives.
  • Participates in performance and quality improvement initiatives aimed at improving outcomes, processes, and services.
  • Creates a desirable, safe, work environment that enables the organization to meet or exceed all licensure, regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Monitors safety and quality reports, taking immediate corrective action when needed.
  • Ensures adequacy of all facilities to include air quality, temperature/humidity, etc.

Follows established City of Hope and department policies, procedures, objectives, performance improvement, attendance, safety, environmental, and infection control guidelines, includingadherence to theworkplaceCode of Conduct and Compliance Plan. Practices a high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Your qualifications should include:

  • Master’s degree in nursing or related field. If master’s degree in related field, must have bachelor’s degree in nursing.
  • Ten (10) years of health care experience. Seven (7) years of OR and CSP experience plus 5 years in leadership.
  • Current California RN license required ot must obtain within six months of hire.
  • CNOR certification required

Preferred education and expereince and skills:

  • Academic oncology

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $79.29 - $132.41 / hour
