Job Description

This position will assist scientists in performing scientific research, development and/or clinical tasks of varying complexity. Specifically, the research technician will be working with trained postdoctoral fellows on mouse and human xenograft models of leukemia and solid tumor. The projects aim to discover new modalities of immunotherapy that can potentially improve patient survival in malignant cancer. This job can provide great learning opportunity in the field of experimental tumor immunology, as the technician will be introduced to cutting-edge research techniques such as flow cytometry and in vivo experiments in preclinical models and can also expand their knowledge of cancer immunology through joint group meetings. Based on the evaluation of overall performance and contribution, the technician may secure co-authorship in future publication(s) that will be useful for future endeavors.

  • Animal work: Mouse genotyping, maintenance of mouse colonies, Tumor and drug Injections.
  • Molecular Biology: Western Blot, RT PCR, ELISA.
  • Cell culture: Maintaining culture of human and mouse tumor cells and immune cells, Mycoplasma testing.
  • Maintaining inventory of reagents and mice colonies in electronic lab notebook.
  • Set up, adjust, calibrate, clean, maintain and troubleshoot equipment.
  • Ordering laboratory supplies.
  • Analyze experimental data and interpret results to write reports and summaries of findings, including grant preparation and presentations, and look for opportunities to co-author publications. May be expected to participate in formal and information presentations of results to staff.
  • Participate in grant application process and manuscript preparation as required.
  • Monitors laboratory work to ensure compliance with Environmental Health and Safety information as well as the standard operation procedures specific to each laboratory.
  • May be responsible for the development, modification and improvement of standard operating procedures.
  • Bachelor's Degree required with a major in biology/immunology preferred.
  • Knowledge of information and techniques related to either molecular biology or medicine is preferred.
  • Must have excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and be able to work with a wide variety of faculty and staff.
  • Ability to analyze information and troubleshoot.
  • Must have attention to detail and be thorough in completing work tasks.
  • Ability to work within a team environment.
  • Mouse work experience preferred.
  • Experience/interest in molecular and experimental immunology preferred.
  • Must be willing to commit to the role for a minimum of 1 year.
