Job Description
The Division of Management & International Business at the University of Oklahoma, Price College of Business is pleased to announce that applications are being accepted for a renewable term faculty role, at the rank of instructor or lecturer, in Sports Business. The intent is to identify an industry-experienced practitioner with a background in the business operations of sport including, but not limited to finance, economics, or analytics.
Ideal candidates will value experiential learning and student engagement and can provide evidence of, or potential for, excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level. In particular, candidates should be able to teach a broad range of sport management courses; including but not limited to Sport Finance, Sport Economics, Sport Analytics, Sport Marketing, and Sport Sponsorship/Revenue Generation. Teaching responsibilities will include undergraduate and graduate courses in sports business, which has various formats, including online and/or in person at our 27,000 square-foot flagship facility for the Gene Rainbolt Graduate School of Business in the heart of Oklahoma City at OU's University Research Park on the Health Sciences Center campus (https://www.ou.edu/price/mba).
Responsibilities:
- Teach four courses per semester in topics related to sports business. Opportunities to teach at the MBA level will be available for candidates that qualify.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to students, helping them develop the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the sports business industry.
- Engage with the university and local community, participating in events, speaking engagements, and other opportunities to share your expertise and build relationships.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and other stakeholders to advance the sports business program and contribute to the success of the university.
- Maintain an active professional network, preferably bringing established industry connections that benefit student opportunities.
- Participate in department meetings, events, and initiatives that support the growth of the sport business program.
- Develop and maintain an active research agenda fulfilling the AACSB requirements of scholarly practitioner as set out by the AACSB.
The University of Oklahoma is a comprehensive research university offering a wide range of undergraduate, masters, and Ph.D. programs plus an extensive continuing education and public service program. The Michael F. Price College of Business is AACSB accredited at all levels with approximately 6,000 students in bachelors, masters, and Ph.D. programs. In addition, the Price College of Business has recently launched the Price Executive Academy, providing continuing, executive education for business leaders.
The Management & International Business Division in the Michael F. Price College of Business is composed of faculty with interests in organizational behavior, human resource management, international business, strategic management, leadership, and legal studies. We currently offer undergraduate degrees in Energy Management, General Management, International Business, and Sports Business plus a minor in Leadership. We deliver required courses for all masters programs. In addition, we provide Ph.D. concentrations in Organizational Behavior, International Business, and Strategic Management.
Currently, the division has 17 full-time faculty members, including the following management scholars: Ronald Anderson, Nick Bartkoski, Ana Bolino, Mark Bolino (Division Director), Bret Bradley, Becky Burink, Sean Daly, Wil Fisackerly, Jaron Harvey Inn Hee Gee, Christina Li, Shawn McClean, Brandi McManus, Oleg Petrenko, Margaret Shaffer, Troy Smith, and Trevor Watkins. Our faculty is an active group of collaboratively minded scholars whose work has appeared regularly in premier outlets such as the Academy of Management Annals, Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Management, Journal of International Business Studies, Leadership Quarterly, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Personnel Psychology, and Strategic Management Journal. Several faculty also fulfill major editorial roles in these and other premier outlets.
The city of Norman, Oklahoma, is a vibrant community of approximately 130,000 residents and is often ranked among the lowest in the nation in terms of cost of living. The OU Campus is home to the Fred Jones Museum of Art, featuring a collection of impressionistic art valued at over $100 million, including works of Degas, Monet, Cassatt, Van Gogh, Pissarro, Renoir, and others. The campus also houses the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History, which won the National Medal for Museum and Library Science in 2014. In 2015, CBS Sports named the University of Oklahoma as having the best collegiate athletics program in the country, and in 2024, OU joined the Southeastern Conference (SEC). Located less than twenty miles from Norman, Oklahoma City is home to an international airport, numerous restaurants, retailers, NBA Basketball (Oklahoma City Thunder), AAA Baseball, USL Soccer, a world-class symphony, ballet, a traveling Broadway Series, and the Oklahoma City Museum of Art which boasts one of the world's most comprehensive collections from famed glass artist Dale Chihuly. Oklahoma City's Boathouse District is a training site for Olympians plus offers numerous recreational boating and cycling opportunities along the Oklahoma River. Norman is also less than three hours away from the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, one of the fastest growing regions of the United States. In sum, the city of Norman offers all of the benefits of living in a college town, while affording easy access to the amenities of larger cities.
Required Criteria:
- A terminal degree (PhD, JD, EdD, etc.) in sports business, business administration, or a related field. A master’s degree will be acceptable if the candidate has significant industry experience.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire students in the classroom.
- A passion for teaching and mentorship, and a commitment to helping students succeed.
Preferred Criteria:
- Experience working in the sports business industry is preferred, including experience in collegiate athletics, NGBs, professional sports, or sports business corporations.
