Job Summary
This is a laboratory research position in the laboratory of Dr. Bal L. Lokeshwar, a Principal Investigator on a federally funded research grant. The position requires hands-on experience working on live research animals such as immune competent and immune-deficient mice strains. The work involves injecting mice with chemotherapy drugs, oral administration of therapeutic agents, tumor induction and euthanasia. The successful candidate is expected to have at least a working knowledge of research projects involving laboratory rodents. The candidate should have experience in histology preparations, preparing histology or cytology slides for microscopy and imaging, The selected candidate is expected to participate in day-to-day laboratory management such as ordering, receiving and inventorying chemicals and supplies, preparation of buffers and some knowledge of biochemical techniques such as gel-electrophoresis, immune blotting and preparing cell samples for analysis. Hands on training will be provided if need be.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Laboratory research involves research animals, mice strains. Mammalian cell culture, preparation for biochemical analysis. Laboratory maintenance such as inventory, upkeep, assisting other researchers in the laboratory on their experiments.
  • Assisting the PI with compliance documents such as chemicals inventory, waste disposal, etc.
  • Ordering, receiving the ordered item, etc.
  • Perform all other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in research, basic science or clinical laboratory particularly clinical trial research.
OR
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years research and/or clinical experience; previous supervisory experience.
Preferred Qualifications
A willingness to learn new research techniques with supervision, desire to learn the scientific principles to understand how an experiment works, good record keeping, archiving and perform simple data analysis such as Excel based calculations and data plotting.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases
Detail-oriented with strong customer service, multi-tasking and organizational skills
Ability to meet deadlines despite often interruptions; maintain confidentiality; keep accurate records; and make independent decisions
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (work outside of the normal business hours will likely be required of an employee in an exempt level position)
Pay Band: B8
Salary Minimum: $45,400 - $50,675
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
