What Your Job Will Be Like:
We are seeking a Quality Engineer to join the dynamic and collaborative Global Burst Detector (GBD) Quality Team. The GBD program is a significant and long-term space payload program executed by Sandia’s Monitoring Systems and Technology Center 6700. We design and produce payloads hosted by GPS satellites, utilizing cutting-edge technologies to monitor for nuclear detonations on Earth, in the atmosphere, and in space. This critical mission requires exceptional Quality support and collaboration to ensure our payloads meet their demanding design and performance requirements while adhering to cost and schedule constraints. On any given day, you may be called to:
- Support the GBD project with execution of its deliverables within the framework of its Quality Management Systems (QMS,) which was established and maintained via AS9100 certification.
- Conduct planning, control, audit, and improvement activities for the GBD program
- Lead quality assurance for the GBD program, including causal analysis, corrective action, and measurement activities, utilizing a Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) defect prevention methodology.
- Implement engineering methods, tools and techniques to design, maintain and improve GBD work processes.
- Develop, operate, and maintain GBD quality control systems.
- Evaluate and analyze testing and inspection procedures to diagnose and correct GBD quality control practices as necessary.
- Define, identify, and apply product and process control methods, such as developing risk mitigation plans, identifying critical control points, and developing and validating assembly/test procedures and work instructions for GBD processes.
- Work with various SMEs throughout the GBD product lifecycle to interpret specifications and requirements and select and develop trusted GBD suppliers.
Hybrid work: The selected applicant can work a combination of onsite and offsite work. The selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessary.
Salary Range:
$81,900 - $157,500
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant STEM degree.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance.
Qualifications We Desire:
- Active DOE or DOD security clearance.
- Master's degree in a relevant STEM field.
- Experience working in high technology industry (space systems, electronics, etc.), or other high consequence areas.
- Experience working within the framework of a quality management system (ISO9000 / AS9100).
- Experience in technical data analysis and formulating performance judgments and process improvements to achieve desired results.
- Experience with manufacturing/production activities.
- Excellent teaming, influencing, and communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize and balance competing activities.
About Our Team:
Monitoring Systems & Technology (MST) Quality Department 6763 provides Center 6700’s capability for defining, implementing, maintaining, and continuously improving Quality Management Systems (QMS)s for Center projects and programs, primarily Global Burst Detector (GBD) and Mobile Guardian Transporter (MGT). We engage with project and program teams, partners and stakeholders to ensure customer cost, schedule, performance, and quality requirements and expectations are met.
We lead the Center’s continuous improvement efforts and ensure compliance to program procedures & Quality standards via the following: product and process evaluation activities, including compiling and analyzing relevant data to inform improvement approaches; shepherding technical insertion opportunities; participating in risk & root cause analyses; providing internal auditing via certified auditors; and providing lessons learned to ensure implementation of improved practices for future activities. We also lead efforts to ensure the Center achieves and maintains external Quality certifications, such as AS9100 and ISO9001. We also apply Lean Six Sigma principles for laboratory spaces utilized across the Center in support of QMS activities. The cornerstone of our department’s practice is implementation of the Plan-Do-Check-Act methodology.
