Job Description

What Your Job Will Be Like:

Organization 5325, Inertial Systems and Avionics is seeking a year-round intern to support the Common Component Tester Team. You will contribute to the upkeep and maintenance of tester facilities and tester equipment. The successful candidate will be capable of working independently and as a member of a Common Component Tester Team.

Key functions of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Review and analyze the existing tester electronic hardware architecture and suggest improvements
  • Review and analyze the existing tester software architecture and suggest improvements
  • Research new approaches to Test Engineering for possible implementation
  • Assist with Lab Maintenance, equipment inventory, and the day-to-day tester lab activities. Investigate/Research way to improve processes for tester laboratory operations
  • Assist with managing laboratory certifications, equipment maintenance, and the lab equipment calibration program
  • Support the logistics and maintenance of tester equipment for tester customers

Qualifications We Require:

You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

  • Currently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited undergraduate program
  • Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
  • Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
  • Ability to secure and maintatin a U.S. security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Enrolled in an undergraduate 4-year degree in Electrical Engineering or similar degree program
  • Set up test equipment by following test procedures
  • NI LabVIEW, NI TestStand, Python, or C/C++ programming languages
  • Windows and Linux software operating systems
  • Electronic circuit and wiring diagrams
  • Formal software development approaches and tools: Agile, Jira, GitLab, CI/CD
  • Working with laboratory test equipment such as power supplies, multi-meters, oscilloscopes, or electronic loads
  • Using hand tools
  • Soldering of electronics
  • Active DOE/DOD clearance

About Our Team:

The Inertial Systems and Avionics (5325) Department at Sandia supports the development and delivery of critical innovative computing solutions for Navigation Systems, Specialized Radars & Hypersonic avionic systems. Our department specializes in reconfigurable digital signal processing systems utilizing leading edge FPGA technology and general-purpose microprocessors. The department specializes in the design, development, and rigorous testing of novel Digital Electronics for Hyper Sonics Systems, Inertial Navigations Systems, and Synthetic Aperture RADARs (SAR). Some of the work areas include inertial navigation, inertial measurement unit (IMU) integration and test, Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver integration & test, hypersonic vehicle GNC algorithm implementation, and HWIL/SWIL simulators.

Security Clearance:
