Job Description

Are you looking to contribute to groundbreaking research? This is a great opportunity for you!

Cedars-Sinai is a leader in biomedical research, we translate discoveries into successful treatments with global impact. We invite to be a part of this amazing work!

Principal Investigator, Youn Jung (Chloe) Choi, PhD, is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher with experience and interest in lung immunology to join her team.

The Choi Lab specializes in cellular and molecular biology, with an emphasis on lung immunology. Our research delves into the intricacies of lung-resident mast cells and alveolar macrophages, exploring their roles in the progression of inflammatory lung diseases such as asthma and lung fibrosis. We center our investigations on understanding how innate immune regulators initiate cell signaling to modulate lung inflammation and fibrosis. Our comprehensive approach involves applying diverse cell-based assays, in vivo animal models of asthma and lung fibrosis, and translational research in lung immunology.

Current research projects include:

  • Understanding lung mast cell-specific innate immune responses in chronic asthma.
  • Understanding alveolar macrophage-specific innate immune responses in pulmonary fibrosis.
  • Developing therapeutic inhibitors for treating inflammatory lung diseases.

Working independently but in close collaboration and in consultation with the Principal Investigator and other Research Scientist, the Postdoctoral Scientist will perform routine and sophisticated laboratory procedures throughout this training period. The incumbent may develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques and protocols. This position is not responsible for generating grant funds.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Analyzes interpret, summarizes, and compiles data.
  • Operates and maintains equipment and instruments.
  • May observe MD-patient or MD-human research subject interactions as it pertains directly to research being performed.

Department-Specific Duties:

  • Independently driving projects and developing innovative research ideas. Design and lead projects focused on lung immune cell functions.
  • Conducting experiments using animal models and assessing pulmonary mechanics; experimental methodologies relating to cellular immunology, molecular biology, and biochemistry.
  • Keeps detailed and accurate logs of experimental design and primary data, analysis, and synthesis.
  • Prepares data presentations and writing manuscripts for publication.
  • Coordinates lab tasks including ordering, inventory, and other essential lab functions.
  • Collaborates with other team members, including students, technicians, and other postdoctoral fellows.
  • Travels to meetings to represent the lab and to present new data.

Qualifications

Education:

Doctorate (MD, PhD, VMD, or DDS) in area directly related to field of research specialization.

Experience:

  • Experience in immunology and cell and molecular biology are preferred.
  • Experience with flow cytometry or cell culture are strongly preferred.
  • Biostatistical and high-dimensional data analysis skills are desirable.
  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team — and should have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
