Primary Purpose of PositionThe College of Science and Technology at North Carolina A&T State University invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor position for the Geomatics program in the Department of Built Environment. Hiring begins in January 2025. The initial appointment is expected to be at the assistant or associate professor level. An appointment at a higher rank may be considered for exceptionally qualified applicants.
This position’s core responsibilities include teaching both undergraduate and graduate-level courses, conducting impactful research, advising and mentoring students, participating in recruitment efforts, contributing to curriculum development, engaging in scholarly activities, and fulfilling all requirements for tenure. Additional duties encompass involvement in accreditation procedures, program assessment, and providing service to the department, College, Community and University as needed.
The ideal candidate will develop and maintain an independent research program in the field of Geomatics. Therefore, the Department is seeking qualified candidates who can develop an innovative research program in varying fields of Geomatics which can include Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), Geodesy, Photogrammetry, Terrestrial Laser Scanning, Airborne or Satellite LiDAR, or Radar Altimetry. They can also have additional interdisciplinary research (e.g., using geodesy to study the atmosphere, climate change, hydrology, or other applications). The successful candidate will be expected to build and publish results from independent and/or collaborative research programs, teach and mentor graduate and undergraduate students, and participate in professional and departmental service activities. The selected candidate is expected to secure extramural funding and direct the research activities of graduate students in and contribute to the growth of the PhD Program in Applied Science Technology.

The Department offers three-degree programs: a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management, Environmental Health and Safety and Geomatics. The Construction Management program is accredited by ACCE and ABET. Geomatics and EHS are accredited by ABET.
In addition, the Department is involved in the Ph.D. in Applied Science and Technology, and offers a GIS Graduate Certificate, while the Construction Management Program is involved in the Master of Science in the Applied Engineering Technology (AET) program. Minimum Requirements
The applicant must have a doctorate (Ph.D.) in Geomatics, Geodetic Science, or a related engineering area from an accredited institution.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
Strong communication and interpersonal skills are desired.

2) Familiarity with the ABET accreditation process
3) Licensed as a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) is a plus
