Job Description
Position SummaryThe Assistant Lab Manager position will set up and break down all Biology teaching labs each week and coordinate the maintenance, calibration, and repairs of equipment in the teaching and research lab spaces. The Assistant Lab Manager is responsible for maintaining and cleaning the labs and prep spaces and ensuring safety compliance. The Assistant Lab Manager will also train and supervise undergraduate work-study laboratory assistants and assist the Biology Lab Manager in designing how labs will be set up and maintained. The Assistant Lab Manager will report directly to the Lab Manager and Chair.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
Efficient and orderly preparation, adaptation, and scaling of faculty-designed teaching lab projects/exercises for large multi-section laboratory classes.
Prep and break down all weekly multi-section laboratory classes, including maintaining all prep spaces, equipment, and supplies.
Train and supervise undergraduate laboratory assistants each semester.
Inventory, track, and coordinate maintenance of research and teaching laboratory equipment, including annual calibration, minor repairs, and major repairs of large equipment.
Clean and maintain all prep spaces, as well as ensure safety compliance
Assist the Biology Laboratory Manager in any additional tasks needed to set up and maintain Biology laboratory spaces and their safety requirements.
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, & Other Attributes
A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific field (preferably Biology) is preferred but not required.
Additional work experience in a laboratory environment is preferred.
