The Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University, we provide dental education to the next generation of professionals by offering hands-on education through innovative research, patient care, and service. Join other dental providers to improve the oral health of Georgia and beyond. The DCG was founded to provide the people of Georgia with quality dental care by educating students in dentistry. As a patient, you have the option to receive treatment in one of our three different practice models consisting of student clinics, resident care, or in the faculty practice. All dental treatments can be completed by the specialists in our facility. We also serve patients in more than 20 clinics across Georgia.
Job Summary
The primary responsibility of this position is to support the Radiology department with clinical needs, administrative requirements, quality assurance, and teaching.
Responsibilities
The duties include, but are not limited to:
RADIOLOGICAL TECHNICAL SKILLS: Acquire dental radiographic procedures to include but not limited to: panoramic imaging, cephalometric imaging, hand-wrist imaging, TMJ imaging, intraoral imaging, advanced 3-dimensional imaging (cone beam computed tomography), NoMAD hand-held x-ray unit. Competence in computer applications to include but not limited to: Digital processing, Digital imaging software (includes 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional imaging software), Transfer of electronic data in compliance with HIPAA requirements, Electronic Health Record entry, Microsoft applications (ex. excel, word), student grading modules (ex. D2L, pounce, axium).
TEACHING STUDENTS: Assist with radiology lab sessions for dental and dental hygiene students. Help teach dental students in the radiology clinic acquire radiographs on patients and digital processing images. Ensure accurate completion of radiographic procedures and orders in electronic health record. Ensure that students follow proper infection control and radiation safety procedures. Check radiographs and diagnostic quality, approve radiographs.
Advise and assist with retakes of radiographs when necessary. Assist students as needed with digital imaging software. Maintain log of student requirements for radiology clinic procedures. Supply and file clinical grading forms for student teaching. Assist with grade entry for student learning objectives in the radiology clinic.
TRAINING STAFF: Conduct clinical training for dental assistants to include intraoral and extraoral imaging techniques. Maintain and store training mannequins. Troubleshoot issues with the storage and display of radiographic images.
PATIENT CARE: Acquire panoramic radiographs on screening patients and patients referred from DCG clinics and outside clinicians. Acquire cephalmetric radiographs, cone beam tomography exams, TMJ imaging, intraoral radiographs, and hand-wrist imaging on patients as needed. Assist with special patient care clinics such as but not limited to: Give Kids a Smile and Denture screening clinics.
MAINTENANCE OF RADIOLOGY CLINIC: Quality control of imaging receptors, extraoral radiographic equipment, and digital processing equipment. Troubleshoot mechanical and computer related issues, report to appropriate personnel as needed. Stock materials for radiographic exams. Ensure proper infection control procedures are followed in radiology clinic and scanning room. Maintenance of clinical areas and scanning room to include but not limited to: periodically inspect radiology equipment for damage, periodic cleaning and disinfection of equipment, operatories, and processing room, calibration of cone beam computed tomography unit. Maintain equipment used in intraoral radiographic exams. Package radiology instruments to autoclave bags for sterilization. Clean and wrap imaging plates. Maintain exposure Log.
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES: Scheduling appointments for dental radiology patients. Create and maintain electronic accounts for CBCT radiology referrals. Transfer radiology reports and radiographic images (including CBCT scans) to outside referrals. Communicate with the DCG business office to ensure correct billing information. Ensure accurate completion of radiographic orders in patients' electronic health record. Troubleshoot and assist with radiology related problems in outside clinics of the DCG. Order supplies. Continuing Education requirements for ARRT if applicable. Annual compliance training required for DCG employees. Maintain CPR certification. Assist students, faculty, and residents in preparing radiographs for board exams. Import radiographs into digital viewing software. Inspect exposure settings and radiographic equipment of DCG clinics as needed. Assist with radiology research projects. Perform image transfers and deletions accurately using MiPACS updater software.
OTHER DUTIES: Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in radiography and AART registry eligible.
Preferred Qualifications
Two years of radiology experience. CPR certified.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
KNOWLEDGE
Radiology Clinical duties: Acquire radiographs to include but not limited to panoramic, cephalometric, cone beam computer tomography, TMJ, intraoral, and hand-wrist images.
SKILLS
Radiologic Technology skills including competence in computer application.
ABILITIES
Ability to tach and evaluate students, train staff, administrative duties involving radiology imaging and transmission.
