Job Description

Summary

The Hsu laboratory in the Department of Integrative Physiology at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking to recruit hard-working, ambitious, and energetic individuals as part of his research team. Research in the Hsu laboratory is focused on leveraging the embryonic lethal mouse strains from the knockout mouse project to investigate genes required for normal embryo and placenta development and their impact on adverse pregnancy outcomes. The Technician will assist research staff in their analyses of mouse models coming through the knockout mouse project and will assist in the day-to-day operation of the laboratory.

Job Duties

  • Works on mouse colony maintenance (tagging, tailing, weaning) and genotyping procedures, as well as general mouse handling and assistance with post-surgical care and injections.
  • Conducts small animal husbandry, animal handling, and specific procedures.
  • Performs genotyping PCR to maintain transgenic and knockout mouse colonies used in projects thatincludes images of genotyping PCR gels and tabulation of genotyping results.
  • Performs laboratory and animal technical duties thatincludes, but not limited to weighing animals and feed, blood withdrawals, performing injections, operating behavioral equipment, and collecting tissue samples.
  • Conducts data analyses as needed.
  • Maintains basic records of experiments, methodologies, and test results in a log of work performed.
  • Maintains inventory and order supplies.
  • Prepares and performs microCT imaging on mouse embryos for phenotyping.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor\'s degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor\'s degree in chemistry, biology, physics, or related science or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Previous experience in mouse husbandry and PCR genotyping experience is desired.
