Job Description

Summary

The Wangler Laboratory is looking to hire a technican to perform basic laboratory duties including preparation of samples, data analysis, and routine duties involved to maintain a functional Drosophila laboratory (organization of lab materials, ordering supplies, and maintenance of fly lines, and other duties as needed). Research Technician position is Drosophila focused, and prior knowledge of Drosophila care and husbandry is desired. The job will entail dissection of Drosophila larvae, and previous experience with laboratory microdissection or drosophila dissection will be a plus.

Job Duties

  • Prepares and conducts laboratory research experiments for Rab5a and UDN associated projects.
    • Adult and larval Drosophila dissection of transgenic flies associated with Rab5a and UDN cases.
    • Drosophila Sleep Experiments and Analysis for Rab5a and UDN cases.
    • Drosophila stock maintainence for Rab5a, UDN, and general laboratory stocks as assigned.
  • Conducts literature searches and summarizes information related to ongoing UDN cases.
  • Documents results of experiments in physical and digital media.
  • Selects, evaluates and applies techniques used in routine research.
  • Orders laboratory supplies and equipment for Rab5a and UDN associated projects.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Be comfortable working as part of an extended scientific team that includes both clinical and scientific roles.
  • Two years of experience preferred, but not required.
  • Prior knowledge of Drosophila care and husbandry is desired.
  • Experience with laboratory microdissection or drosophila dissection will be a plus.
