Job Description

Summary

The Division of Neurology and Developmental Neurosciences at Texas Children's Hospital is looking for a genetic counselor for their division. They will counsel patients with indications of genetic risks in pregnancy.
They will conduct preliminary research such as; family and patient medical histories, coordination and follow-up of genetic testing, and review of patient referrals. They will document a letter to patients and referring physician to summarize the genetic counseling session.

Job Duties

  • Obtains medical and family history of the patient during the clinic setting.
  • Documents clinic notes and encounters in electronic medical record system.
  • Advises providers on appropriate genetic testing options.
  • Counsels patients and families regarding results in the outpatient setting.
  • Assists with making referrals to other providers as indicated.
  • May also provide effort to the Pediatric Mitochondrial clinic, a multidisciplinary clinic at Texas Children's Hospital.
  • May supervise graduate students, fellows, residents during their pediatric genetics rotations.
  • Participates in bimonthly meetings, supervises genetic counseling students, and provides excellent care to patients.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Genetic Counseling.
  • No experience required.
  • Board-eligible or Board Certified Genetic Counselor (CGC) by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC).
