Summary

The Department of Neurology and the Parkinson's Disease Center and Movement Disorders Clinic provide educational programs to residents and fellows, medical students and practicing Neurologists; support research in Neurological disorders; offer the highest quality, and state-of-the-art facilities and equipment.  We invite you to learn more about our nationally and internationally recognized physicians and our cutting-edge research.  We are seeking a qualified, entry level professional nurse who possesses basic general knowledge of nurse practices for a full-time Research Nurse I.  This position will function in the clinical research section of the Department of Neurology Parkinson's Disease Clinic Center and Movement Disorders Clinic.  The Research Nurse I will function in a capacity in which they manage, coordinate, and facilitate clinical research trials throughout their duration.  The Research Nurse I will receive training on all research aspects of this position.  The Research Nurse I will provide professional nursing skills involving patient related research efforts.  Responsible for patient care in a clinic research area. The Research Nurse I is expected to perform responsibilities in a manner that promotes quality and safe patient care and customer service; adheres to the scope of practices as defined by the Texas Nurse Practice Act.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of the research processes, will have basic knowledge of Clinical Research, will have effective communication skills, both orally and in writing.  Also the ability to understand and implement patient studies and protocols. Lastly, will have interpersonal skills necessary to coordinate research studies.

Job Duties

  • Interviews, screens and recruits patients, site initiation visits, interim monitoring visits and close-out studies, explaining processes and procedures to educate the participants regarding the respective research study.
  • Schedules research participants for tests and procedures such as laboratory tests, x-rays, and other studies specific for the research protocol.
  • Collects, processes, ship, and maintain paperwork for blood and/or biological specimens according to procedures outlined in study protocol.
  • Maintains records and regulatory documents and records for respective research studies to ensure compliance with FDA and other governing entities.
  • Manages investigational drug accountability.
  • Collects patient information; processes documents and enters information into a database. May perform Venipuncture (blood draws), EKGs/ECGs and obtain vital signs on study participants.  Will perform the placement/removal of infusion lines for study drug, will monitor patients during infusion of study drug, will administer study drug via injection
  • Assists with the required submissions, amendments and renewals to the IRB.
  • Orders research supplies and equipment.
  • Maintains investigational drug dispensing accountability and shipping logs according to protocol guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
  • No experience required.
  • Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the State of Texas Board of Nursing.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
