What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking a dedicated Physical Security Systems Specialist to join our Physical Security team to develop creative solutions to unique national security challenges!The selected candidate will engage in implementing the DOE/NNSA Technical Security Program, including conducting Facility Technical Threat Assessments, facilitate needs for line and program customers in order to provide Members of the Workforce (MOWs) with accurate and consistent answers to security-related questions. In this role you will work closely with all Security Program areas and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), including but not limited to Personnel Security, Deployed Security Professional, Security Incident Management Program (SIMP), Classified Matter Protection & Control (CMPC), the Sandia Field Office, and the NNSA Technical Surveillance Countermeasures Team. On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Conduct research, analyze data, summarize, and communicate results, and make recommendations, as needed.
  • Flow down security-related requirements to MOWs through laboratory policy, procedures, manuals.
  • Responsible for writing and maintaining security-related resources and materials.
  • Understand and ensure compliance with Security orders and policies.
  • Integrate and collaborate with other colleagues to establish a very broad understanding of the different physical security work processes across the department.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary mission groups across the Laboratory to ensure facility characterizations are being implemented accurately.
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders concerning implementation and execution of DOE/NNSA directives.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, National Security, Business Administration, Intelligence or other relevant fields; or equivalent combination of education and/or relevant experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active DOE Q-level security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Applied knowledge of DOE Security Orders and Sandia’s Safeguards and Security (S&S) Programs and Policies.
  • Knowledge and experience with DOE/NNSA SD 470.6, Technical Security Program.
  • Effective Communicator (oral, written, etc).
  • Experience conducting Facility Technical Threat Assessments (FTTA).
  • Ability to educate and guide others on Security requirements and providing recommendations.
  • Experience developing corrective action plans (CAPS).
  • Experience with DOE Vaults or Vault Type Rooms requirements.
  • Ability to effectively partner with customers and technically direct the efforts of a cross-disciplinary team on large complex security projects.
  • Experience and knowledge of the Technical Surveillance Countermeasures mission.
  • Experience in developing and identifying efficiencies in work processes, procedures and making recommended improvements.
  • Experience with security assessments to support DOE audits and assessment of physical security systems.
  • Experience with Quality and Assurance methods at SNL.
  • Familiarity and experience with databases, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, Outlook, SharePoint, etc.

About Our Team:

The Physical Security Department provides physical security in support of SNL Mission Initiatives. There are several functional areas within the Physical Security Department: Protection Planning & Risk Analysis, Security Areas, Secure Storage (VTRs), Technical Security Program and Barriers & Delay (Lock & Keys). The Physical Security Department supports a holistic security model across the security topical areas aligned to DOE security requirements. The Physical Security department collaborates and partners with other departments within and outside the Safeguards and Security Center. The department also provides Physical Security support to Tonopah Test Range (TTR) Mission and other remote and contract sites..

Posting Duration:

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
