A Research Associate II (RA II) position is immediately available in the laboratory of Dr. Yuman Fong. The Fong laboratory works with Oncolytic viruses. The RA II will directly work on oncolytic virus project, which involves construction of recombinant viruses as well as assessing safety and anti-tumor efficacy of different viral constructs in vitro and in mice. The RA II will perform a variety of research experiments under the guidance of academic supervisor, making innovative contributions pertaining to laboratory procedures. The RA II will typically consult with the academic supervisor on the scope and plan of a research project. The position requires a person to organize and plan techniques and be able to complete assigned experiments in a timely manner.

This position requires experience in both in vitro and in vivo (mouse) models. Commonly used skills in the Fong Laboratory include tissue culture, recombinant virus construction, immune assays, cytotoxic assay, mouse models of cancer, testing safety and anti-tumor efficacy of oncolytic viruses in mouse models.

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Perform a variety of routine and non-routine laboratory research experiments. Record and validate results for accuracy and completeness.
  • Troubleshoot procedures if experiment results are unexpected or unsatisfactory. Recommend alternative procedures.
  • Be responsible for accurately recording work performed including results and methodology. Calculating, compiling and analyzing data obtained from work performed.
  • May contribute to the preparation of manuscripts by describing methods and specialized techniques. Keep abreast of new and improved techniques.
  • Ensure that all laboratory activities are carried out in compliance with each procedure(s) by utilizing safety procedures and guidelines in handling, storage and disposal of bio-hazardous, infectious and toxic material.

Your qualifications should include:

  • Bachelor’s degree. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Two years related research/ laboratory experience with a Bachelor’s degree or one year related research/ laboratory experience with a Master’s degree.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with oncolytic virus or other virus-related work is desirable but not required.
  • The ideal candidate will know the following techniques: Flow cytometry, cell culture, ELISA, Western blot, molecular cloning, Elispot, PCR and RT-PCR, and mouse models.

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $32.00 - $49.60 / hour
