What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are looking for a dynamic, energetic team member to work in the Safeguards and Security (S&S) Assurance Department as a Safeguards & Security Planning & Operations Specialist - Performance Assurance Specialist!

Our department partners with S&S Program subject matter experts, line organizations, Sandia Field Office (SFO) and other customers to develop, implement and continuously improve the S&S Assurance Program. Specifically, this position focuses on Performance Testing of the Protective Force and other required Essential Element Performance Tests.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • In partnership with the team, implement the Performance Assurance Program within S&S Assurance to meet DOE/NNSA and other regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and implement Performance Assurance activities:
  • Alarm Response Assessment Performance Tests,
  • Essential Elements Performance Testing
  • Limited Scope Performance Tests
  • Comprehensive Force-on-Force (e.g., Active Assailant) testing
  • Joint Training Exercises
  • Conduct assessments of Protective Force and other security programs, as needed.
  • Develop continuous program and process improvements.
  • Track, compile, and analyze data to determine trends and necessary corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with a variety of customers and various levels of management.

The successful candidate will have an occasional need to work non-standard hours to conduct performance tests (i.e., after-hours, weekends and holidays).Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline plus five (5) or more years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Law enforcement and/or tactical experience (Police, Protective Force, Military Police or combat arms specialty, or Performance Assurance).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active DOE Q-level security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Knowledge of DOE orders and regulations related to Safeguards and Security.
  • Knowledge of Protective Force individual and team tactical movements.
  • Experience with creating a safety conscious work environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with quality and security assurance activities, including conducting performance tests and assessments, causal analysis and recommending corrective actions.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply critical thinking skills to synthesize data into useful information, such as developing reports and presentations.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex issues clearly and concisely both in writing and verbally to varying audiences.
  • Ability to work in a team-focused environment, exercise discretion, and maintain confidentiality of information.

About Our Team:

The S&S Assurance Department is comprised of professionals who work as a team and are responsible for Self-Assessments, Performance Assurance and Corrective Actions Management. This includes the responsibility for evaluating the health of the security programs at SNL/NM, SNL/CA, SNL Remote Sites, and subcontractor facilities. The purpose of the assurance program is to provide Sandia and SFO leadership with objective information to make informed decisions about the health of the program and acceptance of risk.

Posting Duration:

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

Salary Range:

$78,000 - $150,000

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
