Job Description

Position Summary:
The University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA), is seeking highly qualified applicants for the position of Assistant Dean of Population Health Sciences at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. Applicants must hold a terminal degree in a subject area appropriate for the level of teaching and research duties (including, but not limited to PhD, MD, or DrPH in in the fields of public health, epidemiology, health sciences, anthropology, biostatistics, psychology, addiction studies, environmental health, geography or a related field.
Duties:
In addition to these administrative duties, the Assistant Dean of Population Health Sciences is also expected to teach courses, conduct scholarly research, and provide service to the university, the community, and the profession. These additional non administrative activities comprise the remainder of the Assistant Dean’s workload (49%).InReporting to the Dean and Associate Dean of the College of Health, the Assistant Dean of Population Health Sciences has primary responsibility (51%) to provide effective leadership of all academic (teaching and research) and administrative matters in the Division of Population Health Sciences and to be a member of the College of Health leadership team. Specific duties include, but are not limited to: unit organization and strategic planning, personnel and staffing, budget development and management to assure adequate resources to fulfill the mission of the division, curriculum and instruction, and active academic program accreditation oversight. The Assistant Dean of Population Health Sciences leads the division’s strategic planning efforts, and actively advocates for the Division with constituencies both internal and external to the university. In their role as a member of the College of Health leadership team, the Assistant Dean of Population Health Sciences is expected to regularly consult with the Dean’s Office and actively collaborate with other assistant deans in the College in order to advance the missions of both the Division of Population Health Sciences and the College of Health.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:
Extensive academic experience in relevant field, to include curriculum, inter-professional education, faculty, student advising, accreditation, grant writing, and research processes. Successful experience in strategic planning, policy formulation and implementation, tracking and disseminating information, management of enrollments, program assessment and oversight.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:
• Terminal degree in a subject area appropriate for the level of teaching and
research duties (including, but not limited to PhD, MD, or DrPH. in in the fields of
public health, epidemiology, health sciences, anthropology, biostatistics,
psychology, addiction studies, environmental health, geography or a related field)
• Evidence of prior academic administrative leadership experience
• Strong record of public health teaching, research and service, warranting
appointment at the academic rank of Associate or Full Professor
• Ability to meaningfully contribute to the Division’s focus on diversity, equity
inclusion and cultural humility




SALARY INFORMATION:
This is a full-time, 12-month, Associate Professor or Professor position complete with a full employee benefits package. Discipline will be determined at the time of hire (may include
Health Sciences or Public Health, among other public health related disciplines).

Salary will be determined upon initial appointment based upon academic rank, record of scholarly accomplishment and achievement, and demonstrated prior administrative experience.
