We are a basic and translational research laboratory that studies the adaptive platelet phenotype in vascular and thrombotic disorders. Platelets are small anucleate blood particles which play an important role in thrombosis, hemostasis, and inflammation. Our laboratory was the first to identify that platelets are reprogrammed from their native, healthy state to a dysregulated state in the circulation at the time of acute myocardial infarction. We have since demonstrated that the anucleate platelet is sensitive to its external environment in vivo and ex vivo, and capable of altering post-receptor signal transduction events.
