As an Animal Husbandry Technician I, you will be a part of Cleveland Clinic’s commitment to research and medical advancement. While working some weekends and holidays, you will be responsible for the wellbeing of the aquatics area of the Biological Resources Unit (BRU). This can include:
• Recirculating water system maintenance.
• Tank cleanliness.
• Water quality and chemistry.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs daily health observations and monitors the condition of research animals.
  • Provides custodial care, fresh feed, and fresh water to animals according to the standard operating procedures.
  • Receives animal shipments and completes required documentation.
  • Maintains and adequately supplies the areas used for technical procedures.
  • Transports supplies, equipment and animals to and from various locations.
  • Other duties as assigned

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must be willing to be trained to properly handle all species of animals housed within the BRU

Certifications:

  • None required

Complexity of Work:

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Must be flexible and complete the job before leaving work.
  • Animal care is a 7-day per week, 365-days per year job.

Work Experience:

  • Experience in the custodial care of animals preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and transport supplies, equipment, and/or animals weighing over 50 pounds; frequent standing, bending and walking; must be able to tolerate unpleasant odors, sights, animal bites and scratches.
  • May be required to work with biological, chemical, and radiation hazards after proper training

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
