Job Description

Summary

The NIH-funded laboratory of Dr. Hsiao-Tuan Chao at the Neurological Research Institute, affiliated with Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital, is recruiting a candidate to join a highly collaborative team engaged in neuroscience, genetics, and human disease research. The laboratory focuses on understanding neural circuit development and function, and how dysregulation of these processes contributes to brain disorders such as intellectual disability, epilepsy, and autism. The lab is looking for a motivated research technician to assist with fruit fly and/or mouse husbandry, neuro-histology, molecular biology, and behavioral studies. Responsibilities of this position are split between the laboratory and the vivarium. Job Duties

  • Prepares and conducts laboratory research experiments.
  • Collects, compiles, and analyzes data.
  • Conducts fruit fly colony maintenance. 
  • Performs mouse colony maintenance and genotyping.
  • Performs routine technical laboratory and specialized procedures.
  • Works on neuro-histology, protein assays, DNA studies, and imaging.
  • Conducts behavioral studies (rodent and fruit fly assays).
  • Works on data entry, document experimental results, record keeping.
  • Cleans equipment and work area, operates laboratory equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in the biological sciences.
  • Experience handling mice or fruit flies in laboratory.
  • At least one year of work experience in a basic science laboratory.
  • Be able to follow established procedures and properly record results.
