Ball State University Information Technology is seeking an Enterprise Cloud Resource Manager. In this role, you will be responsible for the university's IT presence in various cloud environments, including AWS, Azure, and GCP. You will assist in the design, deployment, and support of cost effective, enterprise level, cloud-based solutions. You'll work with clients, both internal and campus-wide, to evaluate existing solutions and provide guidance to reduce both cost and complexity. Minimum Education:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university by date of appointment.
Or, in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree:
Associate’s degree plus an additional combination of education or experience in IT equivalent to two years.
Or
High school diploma or GED plus an additional combination of education or experience in IT equivalent to four years.

Preferred Education:

Bachelors or Master’s degree in a technology or business-related program.

Minimum Experience:

At least two years’ experience managing cloud based infrastructure with one of the industry leading companies. Demonstrated experience including log analysis, resource management, and scripting. Experience working with clients to review their needs and producing detailed proposals for solutions.

Preferred Experience:

Five years of enterprise cloud management experience at a higher education institution. Demonstrated in depth knowledge of cloud technologies across multiple vendors. Five years’ experience with cloud backup, resource provisioning, budgeting, client requirements gathering, project management, and technical support.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary administrator and point of contact for Ball State’s Information Technology cloud environments. This includes activities associated with solution implementation, maintenance, backup, redundancy, billing, consolidation, and decommissioning of resources.
  • Provide cost estimates for new projects working with various areas across campus. Depending on the need, provide options from multiple cloud vendors and different options available within a single cloud provider leveraging cost effective and resilient services.
  • Provide detailed reporting using delivered reports included in management portals, custom reports, and data available via API’s included by the provider. Create comprehensive reports for system administrators and other clients as necessary. Review existing reports to ensure they are meeting client needs on a recurring basis.
  • Provide technical assistance and guidance for projects that require cloud resources. Work with internal IT staff and campus users providing suggestions for viable options across multiple cloud environments to deliver the best solution. When needed, provide detailed analysis including cost, maintainability, stability, and feature comparisons to strike a balance based on the project needs.
  • Provide continual review of Ball State’s cloud environments ensuring optimal use of all resources. Consolidate services in order to reduce cost and management overhead. Document potential consolidations or alternative implementation plans which introduce cost savings, lower complexity, or lower administrative overhead.
  • Keep appraised of new technologies introduced in the cloud environments and coordinate meetings between Ball State and cloud vendors. Continually evaluate new technologies introduced by cloud vendors and consider which technologies would best apply to our environment. Include areas across campus (both administrative and academic) who have a vested interest in cloud technologies.
  • Implement monitoring and reporting solutions for resources hosted in Ball State’s cloud environments. Work with clients to set up alerting based on the needs of their solution. Provide reports showing system/service utilization, uptime, and overall system/service usage.
  • When needed, provide scripts and applications that will assist in the provisioning and other processes that can be automated. Maintain consistency within the environment using delivered or custom tasks for resource management.
  • Work with the Networking and Security teams ensuring reliable connectivity and secure environments. Review access logs and work with the Security team to monitor requests to Ball State’s environments. Make sure all firewall changes are documented and approved.
  • Review billing statements from providers ensuring that all resources can be accounted for. Work with IT’s Finance team to ensure enough budget is allocated for our environments, client usage is being billed back correctly, and provide forecasting information and budget accordingly.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
