Job Description

Seeking one or two postdoctoral candidates to study cancer and inflammation in the intestinal tract.

The overall interest of the lab is to investigate how inflammation and tumorigenesis are regulated by the bioactive phospholipid, lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) and LPA receptors. Our overall goal is to understand how LPA acting through G protein-coupled receptors regulates epithelial cell proliferation, survival, and intestinal barrier function all of which contribute to inflammation and cancer. One project funded by a NIH grant studies the role of LPA5 receptor in intestinal stem cell survival, innate immunity, and tumorigenesis. Additional opportunities to study cancer metabolism exist. We use transgenic animals, stem cell cultures, established cell lines along with state of art microscopes to investigate the mechanism driving tumorigenesis and epithelial pathology. Candidates with a working knowledge of stem cell, immunology, epithelial cancer biology are preferred. Other desired skills include high-resolution microscopy, FACS analysis, experience working with small animals (breeding, genotyping, and surgery). Qualified candidates should be able to design experiments, analyze data, and troubleshoot experiments with excellent oral and written communication skills. Postdoctoral fellow will be expected to present research findings at conferences and compose manuscripts. He/she should be able work effectively and collegially with others and is expected to interact closely with the supervisor through weekly one-to-one meetings and monthly group meetings. A doctoral degree or equivalent (PhD, MD, ScD, DVM, or MD/PhD) in the field of cell biology, immunology, or signal transduction is required. Preference will be given to an early stage (< 2 years) applicant.

Emory University provides full benefits for postdoctoral fellows with opportunities for career development supported by the Office of Postdoctoral Education. Emory University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
