About this Role:

The Veterinary Health Center (VHC) with the College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking applicants for a Veterinary Assistant position. The purpose of this position is to provide assistance to VHC veterinarians and Registered Veterinary Nurses in the performance of their duties and to improve the client service experience. This position will provide clerical and patient care support, and serve as an assistant and electronic medical record specialist in the Small Animal Oncology Service.

Duties / Responsibilities:

Administrative assistant for the oncology service: 1) screen incoming phone calls; 2) assist in scheduling oncology patients; 3) resource in management of daily oncology service activities; 4) client liaison with the oncology service; 5) assist with acquisition and filing of faxed lab work and records of oncology patients; 6) assist with entry of patient charges
Assist Oncology Veterinarians and Registered Veterinary Nurses: 1) provide patient restraint for sample collection, procedures and/or chemotherapy administration; 2) feed, exercise, bathe patients if necessary; 3) assist with collection of urine and fecal samples; 4) monitor, record and report vital parameters and physical status of hospitalized patients; 5) assist with compliance of all biohazard and infection control protocols; 6) provide clean bedding, water and litter boxes; 7) clean runs/cages if necessary; 8) Restock and re-order supplies
Electronic Medical Record Specialist A) Medical Scribe a. Gather information for patient visit b. Enter documentation into the Electronic Medical Record as directed and appropriate B) Provide input in the creation and development of electronic medical record forms C) Serve as electronic medical record and Hospital Information System resource for students, staff and faculty
Required Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma
One year of relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications:

Two or more years of experience as a veterinary assistant providing patient care
Ability to work with and provide preventative maintenance for ordinary veterinary medical hospital equipment
Ability to handle, restrain, and provide medical treatments to domestic animals
Willingness to master new techniques
Demonstrated experience, knowledge and comfort with Word and Excel software
Ability to provide software instruction to a variety of audiences
