The Director of Data Intelligence and Analytics bears the responsibility to foster value creation from the use of the university’s data assets through data exploitation, envisioning data-enabled strategies, as well as supporting data and analytics governance and enterprise information policy.
The person will oversee enterprise analytics, decision-making affecting analytics, directing analytics processes, and using analytics to drive innovation. This person will lead and support Coppin’s Data Democratization goal by building relationships with campus stakeholders, advocating for strategic change, and fostering innovative approaches for using analytics.
Support campus-wide innovation and cultural change through a data-informed decision-making approach.
Build synergetic relationships with Executive Leadership, Business Unit Leaders, and Academic Leaders to gain an understanding of their respective strategic priorities to devise data-informed recommendations.
Identify new kinds, types, and sources of data to drive innovation throughout the university.
Manage the ethical implications of data and analytics through data stewardship measures.
Define, manage, and advance Coppin’s information management principles, policies and programs for stewardship and custodianship of data and analytics, in concert with legal, information security, and compliance offices.
Identify and standardize the use and governance of data and analytics to support the university’s strategic priorities.
Organize and chair a data and analytics governance council.
Participate in regulatory and compliance programs related to data and analytics assets.
Maintain relationships with key external providers of data and information services.
Develop and maintain controls on data quality.
Define processes for the effective, integrated introduction of new data.
Build Coppin’s capacity to develop insights and drive decisions with analytics.
Institute a programmatic approach for enterprise information management to identify, prioritize, and execute the data and analytic initiatives.
Innovate with and expand Coppin’s research and analytics offerings.
Provide tools to strengthen stakeholders’ abilities to discern data patterns.
Identify and communicate the benefits and value of data to campus stakeholders.
Be a champion for a data-driven, decision-making culture.
Showcase to campus stakeholders the analytics tools available.
Share relevant insights to campus stakeholders.
Find unique ways to explain complex data information to stakeholders.
A master’s degree in statistics, business administration, computer science, data science, information science, or a closely related field.
Minimum of three years using analytics for decision-making and information strategies and experience in data management.
Minimum of five years in IT management.
Higher education experience preferred, but not required.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics:
Excellent business acumen and interpersonal skills; able to work across business lines.
Experience developing and managing multidisciplinary talent teams in new endeavors and delivering solutions.
The ability to describe business use cases/outcomes, data sources and management concepts, and analytical approaches/options.
Information strategy experience; experience in strategic planning and execution, and policy development and maintenance.
Analytical skills: outstanding analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Familiarity with business information generation and analysis methods.
Ability to effectively drive business, culture and technology change in a dynamic and complex operating environment.
Gravitas to develop a framework for information and analytics governance, as well as to sell and embed it in all levels of the campus.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Proven record of building teams and consensus; getting things done through others not directly under his/her supervision.
Demonstrated knowledge of data structure desired; information systems/tools, and related software and data management; enterprise content management, and record-keeping policies and practices.
Broad experience desired in multiple domain areas, such as data warehousing, business intelligence (BI), data governance, data architecture, data integration, data classification, data strategy, data quality management, data security and privacy, data standards, and regulatory compliance.
