Summary

Seeking a Pathologists' Assistant. The qualified candidate will perform gross dissection of surgical specimens. They will also dictate the information on these specimens. Other duties include collecting and cataloging fresh tissue for the Tumor Bank and special studies.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards, knowledge of quality standards and requirements for pathology specimen photographs, knowledge of biological specimen disposition, maintenance and storage procedures and techniques, and knowledge of chemical reagents and equipment used in pathology research.

Job Duties

  • Performs gross dissection of surgical specimens, selecting appropriate tissue to be submitted for histologic review.
  • Takes gross photographs and catalogue them into computer.
  • Dictates verbal reports regarding the specimens.
  • Teaches PA students and residents.
  • Collects and catalogs fresh tissue for Tumor Bank and special studies.
  • Prepares quality assurance reports.
  • Reviews and revises CPT charge codes and obtain A-charges for international patients.
  • Instructs/advises Pathology residents and students on pathology techniques and procedures.
  • Organizes the work flow in the grossing area.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from accredited Pathologist Assistant Program or Bachelor's degree in Biological or Allied Health Sciences.
  • Six months of relevant experience if graduated from an accredited Pathology Assistant Program.
  • With a Bachelor’s degree in Biological or Allied Health Sciences, two years of related experience.
  • Certified as a Pathologist’s Assistant by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP-PA).
