We are seeking a dedicated and results-oriented Systems Engineer to join a team working on an element of the Integrated Surety Architecture (ISA) program established by the NNSA to provide enhanced capability shipping configurations of NNSA assets during over the road transportation. Core responsibilities of this leadership position are related to customer interfacing, internal agency collaboration, procedural development, sustainment, and system-of-system certification for the Multi-Application Transportation Attachment Device (MTAD). ISA is in a very formative phase of realization and implementation; this position will be influential within this maturation process. Additional responsibilities may include mentoring, report development/review, and classification support.

  • Create, edit, and report out on system lifecycle milestones and trends with a dedicated scheduler.
  • Collaborate and communicate with both internal and external ISA partners (KCNSC, LANL, LLNL, PX, NNSA, +)
  • Show compliance with established policies and procedures pertaining to the integration and execution of ISA.
  • Identify and develop polices to address gaps in ISA implementation and certification.
  • Lead and/or support troubleshooting of the MTAD Subsystem in partnership with the SNL design agency
  • Author documents to be stored in medium to high-rigor corporate storage as necessary.
  • Utilize systems engineering concepts and fundamentals.
  • Regularly collaborate with domain specialists and other systems engineers in defining and developing the test scope and methods to collect desired information.
  • Identify and elevate risks and issues impacting mission execution.
  • Work independently with little guidance as well as collaboratively in a diverse and inclusive teaming environment spread across site.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite 90% of the time.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Experience leading a multi-organizational team through project milestones.
  • Experience in Quality Engineering to include requirements verification.

  • Experience with strategic planning including defining a vision and a roadmap to realize the vision.
  • Proven ability to quickly learn new tools, approaches, and concepts and to understand and follow defined engineering processes.
  • Ability to lead and direct subordinates as well as engage with senior staff and management.
  • Ability and desire to multi-task and to prioritize work and make decisions while working on multiple tasks.

About Our Team:

The special projects department was established to focus on the successful deployment of Integrated Surety Architectures (ISA) applications for reentry body and air delivered systems into the transportation safeguards system embodied by the Safeguards Transporter (SGT). The organization serves as the ISA project integration office at Sandia to the NNSA enterprise for over the road (OTR) applications. Currently, there are five major ISA efforts underway at SNL and the Multi-application Transportation Attachment Device (MTAD) program, for which this posting is seeking a technical lead for, is essential for three of those five. As such, the organization interacts extensively with the NW development and stockpile systems capabilities within the laboratory in addition to the transportation safeguards program and many other partnering entities/agencies.

Posting Duration:

This posting will be open for application submissions for a minimum of seven (7) calendar days, including the ‘posting date’. Sandia reserves the right to extend the posting date at any time.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.
