Job Description

Position Highlights:

Under the broad direction of the Radiologist, the Manager of Diagnostic Imaging and the Administrator of Radiology Imaging Services, the MRI Supervisor shall perform all MRI examinations on selected portions of the anatomy as requested by the clinician on patients in the following age groups; adolescence 12-19 years of age, adults 20-65 and geriatric adults 65 years and older. The MRI Supervisor is expected to perform a variety of MRI procedures with the knowledge and ability to obtain a quality diagnostic examination. Responsible to obtain a patient history and appropriate clinical data to aid in proper diagnostic correlation. Supervise, train, evaluate and discipline (with direction from HR, Diagnostic Imaging Manager and Administrator of Radiology Imaging Services) the MRI technologist and oversee the daily operation of the MRI department as it relates to schedules and procedures.

Must be able to work weekends and "ON CALL" hours, as appropriate.

Responsibilities:

  • Broadens and maintains knowledge of MRI principles and imaging techniques as they apply to the daily operation of the department.
  • Demonstrate a complete working knowledge of MRI equipment and MRI safety in the department.
  • Work with the department support staff to implement changes such as RIS changes, service master updates or corrections, CPT coding, billing, cost base, productivity, and revenue code.
  • Maintain a current knowledge of new methods/technology and industry trends that may affect the Cancer Center.
  • Evaluate and maintain a thorough knowledge of regulatory requirements such as TJC, ACR and HRS.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently to solve problems and determine any corrective action required.
  • Understand the documentation requirements for RIS, QA, Research,PACS, Cerner orders, Powerchart, dictation and other related systems
  • Follows up on error corrections, assist with the development of processes to improve current methods to ensure increased efficiency and automation.
  • Comply with and support changes in department and hospital standards including coding, CPT and HIS system changes.
  • Use interpersonal communication skills to convey a positive and supportive attitude.
  • Communicate changes, policy revisions, new services and information to the staff in written form and meetings.
  • Promote good interpersonal relationships through cooperation, flexibility, dependability, and support the team goals towards achieving the department mission.
  • Evaluates the quality of work in the department and maintains a thorough knowledge of the requirements for TJC, ACR and the FDOH.
  • Supervise and coordinate schedules and workflow in the MRI department.
  • Organize, plan and direct activities for all designated areas as needed.
  • TECHNICAL Maintain and broaden knowledge of new methods/technology in industry trends that may affect HLM.
  • Responsible for the direct supervision of the MRI Technologists, MRI Coordinator, Diagnostic Imaging Assistant, and the daily operations.
  • Provides Effective Staff Scheduling
  • Evaluate and adjust as necessary the daily MRI schedule to include all research studies.

Credentials and Qualifications:

  • Associate degree – Radiology Technology or related field of study
  • Minimum of five (5) years of MRI Experience that includes one year of relevant leadership experience.
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists -  (ARRT) ARRT (MR) Advanced MRI
  • BLS – Basic Life Support

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s Degree – Radiology Technology
  • MRSO Preferred
  • One to two years of previous supervisory experience preferred.
